SCHOOL GROUP GUIDELINES

To ensure the safety of the students, the preservation of our maintained trail system, and the orderly scheduling of activities, we ask the schools to follow the guidelines below when using our trails.

SCHOOL GROUP RATES:

In order to allow as many students as possible to use the trails, we have a special school rate. A school can obtain a “school membership” from the North Bay Nordic Ski Club for an annual fee of $50. This allows all students from your school to use our trails on school days as part of a school outing. This eliminates the need to pay trail fees. If your school does not wish to become a member, each student can pay the normal daily rate of $3 for 12 year olds and under or $7 for those 13 and older (unless he or she is a member of the club in which case he/she would simply need to wear his/her membership button). Either way, the trail fee money should be collected by the supervising teacher and paid to the Snack Bar attendant when you arrive.

RENTAL EQUIPMENT:

We have an adequate supply of ski equipment for rent for skiers of all sizes (see Inventory). A complete set of equipment (boots, skis and poles) is available at a cost of $5.00 + tax.  We can equip a group of 25-30 students in any grade starting from grades 4 to 12. Again, the rental fees for each student would need to be collected by the supervising teacher and paid to the Snack Bar attendant once everyone was equipped.

All equipment needs to be returned to the snack bar before departure.

DAY USE AGREEMENT:

For insurance purposes, we ask that each parent/guardian (unless the student is 18) read, sign, and return a day use agreement form (Download the required number of Day Use Agreement.pdf) to their teacher. The teacher would collect all the forms from each student and hand them in to the Snack Bar attendant when arriving so that it may be kept on file (this form needs to be filled only once for the season). Sorry, if any day use agreement forms are not filled, we can not permit that child to ski.

SCHEDULING:

It is important to let us know when your school would like to use our trails to make sure we have sufficient rentals and personnel on hand. Available dates are posted on our website on the school calendar. To reserve a date, e-mail the school liaison.

CHECKING IN:

Please check in at the Snack Bar in the Club House upon arrival. If your event is cancelled please contact Andrew Koski-Harja by calling 474-0478 or email at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it . We will let you know if the trails are closed due to poor trail conditions.

It is recommended that a teacher/parent help the attendant, while she/he fits the rental equipment to ensure that your first visit runs smoothly. An information sheet is filled out and kept on file for future visits.

SUPERVISION:

All teachers need to check with their board’s policy on adult/child ratio for cross country skiing outings. All student groups must be accompanied by responsible adults, and supervised at all times, both on the trails and in the clubhouse. Parents or other adults who accompany school groups as supervisors can ski with the students as part of the school membership without paying a trail fee. However, they need to pay the adult day rate of $13 if the school does not have a membership. Again, all participants need to fill a Day Use Agreement form. School groups are asked to make sure that all trash and litter is picked up and placed in appropriate containers, especially students who bring skis that are tied together with a rubber band or taped together and discard the tape or rubber band on the snow which causes a hazard to anyone skiing over it. Velcro is a great and affordable alternative. Teachers should advise in advance, parents coming to the club, that NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED not even on a leash. Schools will be responsible to reimburse the North Bay Nordic Ski Club for any damage to its property caused by students or supervisors.
