Can you believe the ski season is already winding down? This is my fourth year as a member of the North Bay Nordic Jr Ski Team. Our team competed this year at the Ontario Cup races in Thunder Bay, Ottawa, Onaping, and the Winter Games in Huntsville, as well as OFSAA, and the Midget championships this past weekend in Midland. As I look back on the 2010 ski season I remember everything from two athlete injuries at the Easterns to Nadine Perron’s gold medal sprint in Onaping, and to my OFSAA gold. It has been a busy and rewarding season, and the North Bay team brought home many medals. Four of our ten athletes have just been named to the Ontario Development Team. This team is made up of the top 44 racers age 14 and over in Ontario. This is quite an accomplishment for such a small team. Our midgets are also some of the best in the province, and represented the North Bay club on the podium at every race. |

In late August, 2009, aspiring Olympian and former North Bay Nordic Junior Race Team member, Dave Nighbor and his girlfriend Nicky, traveled to North Bay to provide this year’s Junior Race Team members with a fun and intensive two-day clinic. Dave continues to stay in close contact with ski team members and has developed their training program which they are following to prepare for the 2009/2010 race season. The entire ski team, including the coaches, athletes and their parents, are very grateful for having Dave’s attention to detail close by. Watch for Dave this season as he once again masters ski races around the world.

Liam Patterson’s Athlete Profile This is my third year on the team. Although I am very tall, according to my birth certificate I am 13years old. I have been skiing since I was five, even though my parents say that I cried all the way up every hill and occasionally threw my poles into the bush. But, don’t worry I have overcome this fear of big hills now.
I was happy with my competitive year last season. I have been training this past summer and fall, to improve my endurance and technique. A highlight of the summer was training with Dave Nighbor, as well as attending the training camp in Ottawa (I liked roller skiing in the Gatineau’s – even if it was raining!) I am looking forward to the snow and another race season. I hope to achieve and perhaps surpass the goals that I have set for myself. One day I plan to be Head Coach of the World Ski Team and race throughout the Universe!!! Click on the Picture for a larger view! |

Hi I’m Aaron Birosh. I am 11 years old and this is my first year with the North Bay Nordic junior race team. I have been training all summer with the team and especially enjoyed my training camps. I participate in lots of other sports including tennis, badminton, soccer, volleyball and basketball and many others. I also play conservatory piano. Last year I got a gold and a bronze medal in Nordic skiing at the Ontario Winter Games and 2 gold medals at my first Ontario cup races in Sudbury. This year I am racing as a midget boy and am hoping to have an even better year . My goals for the future are to be a veterinarian or a medical doctor and to ski professionally. |

Molly's Athlete Profile
I have been cross-country skiing for most of my life, but I started going out in a backpack on my dad's back. My family has spent a lot of time ath North Bay Nord since we moved to North Bay when I was a baby. I started in the Jackrabbit program when I was six, and I taught myself to skate-ski when I was eight. I started skiing on the W.J. Fricker school team in grade 6, and this is my first year on the North Bay Nordic Junior Racing Team. I am in grade nine at Chippewa Secondary School.
I enjoy Nordic skiing because I love the feeling of being outside on a snowy windy day. Since I've been training hard since July, I'm looking forward to seeing how much faster I'll be able to ski this winter. It will be fun going to different events, wth the Junior Racing Team. |

On Saturday, September 27th the Junior Racing Team met at the home of Barry Birosh and Sera Tempio for a workout which included a warm-up, plyometrics, and 3km, 5km or 7.5 classic roller ski time trials on Northshore Road. After this strenous two hour workout they then had a BBQ and proceed to the Club House and outfitted themselves for three hours of trail brushing.

I participate in many activities such as soccer, track and field, cross country running, equestrian riding, and I have been on the North Bay Titans swim team for 4 years. I have also been playing piano for seven years. In the Winter of 2008 I went to the Ontario Winter Games as an unofficial ski team member. My goal for the up-coming season is to exceed any of my previous results and have fun at this year’s competitions. |

Hi everybody - my name is Scott Hill. I was born March 17, 1992. I live in the huge town of Parry Sound. Last year was my first year on the North Bay Junior Racing team and it was awesome. I really had fun and learned a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!. Next to skiing, I enjoy running, mountain biking, water skiing, hockey, and fishing. My favorite hockey team is the Boston Bruins. The team I dislike the most is the Toronto Maple Leafs. I thought my coaches were amazing, even if Bob was a Leaf's fan.
I am really looking forward to the start of next ski season and becoming a better skier. |
